The PEM Centre provides expertise in the areas of:
The PEM Centre (Precision Engineering and Manufacturing) is a twofold organisation which incorporates the PEM Research Centre and the Enterprise Ireland funded PEM Technology Gateway
Our aim at The PEM Centre is to:
To service the needs of industry - working with companies to provide solutions to engineering, manufacturing and technical problems across their value chain.
To contribute to the technical and academic body of knowledge within the Precision Engineering & Manufacturing sector, and to transfer that knowledge to Industry.
The PEM Research Centre structure provides a platform to consolidate our experience, expertise and resources through our Principal Investigators, all who have individually achieved notable research achievements through engagement with industry.
The PEM Research Development and Innovation capabilities and resources provide industry with a unique single R&D support offering in precision engineering and manufacturing. In addition, we have forged strategic collaborations with a number of Enterprise Ireland and SFI (Science Foundation Ireland) funded research centres to further strengthen our R&D support for industry.
The PEM Centre is focused on addressing specific manufacturing industry research needs in:
Product Design and Added Manufacturing.
Manufacturing Process Simulation and Optimisation.
Enhancement, Optimisation & Control of Polymer Processes.
Precision Engineering and Micro-Machining.
Laser-based prototyping and Manufacturing technologies.
Nanomaterials and Nanotechnologies.
The PEM Research Centre has partnerships with NWCAM (Sustainable Manufacturing) and I-Form (Soft sensors and novel tooling) both based in Northern Ireland. We are currently working on several industry projects through these partnerships.
PEM Technology Gateway offers applied industrial support to industry which is funded by Enterprise Ireland and is one of 15 Technology Gateway’s in eleven Institutes of Technology and Technological Universities nationwide. Building on the Institute of Technology Sligo’s research strengths we work with companies primarily in the North West, but also nationwide across a range of sectors on projects that help them solve technical challenges they are experiencing or innovations they want to exploit.
We provide technology solutions that allow companies to develop new products, processes & services by leveraging the research expertise available to us through IT Sligo. We provide a range of expertise for companies who are looking to access research & development in areas of precision engineering, mechanical engineering, material science, micro-machining, polymer processing, rapid prototyping, general manufacturing process control and statistical process analysis.
PEM provide engineering and technical solutions along with process improvements across the full product lifecycle, with specialisation in product design and development in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
We can also help businesses to navigate the myriad of Funding mechanisms and help them chose the funding best suited to their project. With funding available from €5,000 up to €300,000, it can be a godsend to businesses.
